Below is extracted text Mercedes-Benz website that gives more details about the award:
The award given to Multi-Car Rio Terminal de Veículos S.A. (Multiterminais Group's Ro-Ro Specialized Vehicle Terminal) recognized the sustainable initiative Composting in loco . The objective was to eliminate environmental impacts with the external treatment of organic waste. The project was based on the treatment called ADB (High Biological Digestion), which does not generate bad smell, leachate and, mainly, does not attract vectors, due to the high temperature generated in the aerobic decomposition process. Unlike conventional composting processes, this model presents itself as a differentiated environmental solution. Annual benefits: elimination of sending 120 tons of organic waste to landfill; reduction of CO₂ emissions related to the transport of waste; 50% cost reduction with organic waste treatment; use of fertilizer in the company's gardens and donation for social projects.
