Multiterminais has acquired two new ZPMC Post-Panamax Portainers

The Multiterminais Group has acquired two new ZPMC Post-Panamax Portainers for use in its MultiRio Container Terminal. The US$15 million investment (US$7.5 million each) aims to increase the rate of container movements per hour, thus enhancing terminal efficiency.

It is estimated that with this purchase, the MultiRio Container Terminal will increase its productivity by 25%, which translates into a higher speed at which ships can be loaded and unloaded.

The Terminal will go from a 40 movement per hour range to a 50 movement per hour range.

The equipment is expected to arrive in November 2011 and is expected to start operating in January 2012.

The acquired portainers are similar to the one already in operation (see picture) but, are of a newer generation.

Below, you will find some technical especifications of the new equipment:

  • outreach: 18 rows
  • backreach: 14m
  • maximum spreader height above track level: 37m
  • spreader reach below track level: 18m
  • speed: elevation load 70m/min; trolley 210m/min;
  • standard and twinlift spreader
  • spreader capacity : standard: 50 tons twinlift: 65 tons
  • automatic operational benefits: automatic anti-swinging, automatic TLS and spreader auto positioning system

The operators chosen amongst the most experienced, will have specific technical qualifications in order to maneuver these two new state of the art portainers.
